October 2024 – University of Minho and La Rochelle University

On October 1st and 2nd, 2024, the inaugural NORISK cohort was welcomed at the University of Minho, Portugal, and La Rochelle University, France, marking the start of an exciting academic journey in the field of risk assessment and management. The cohort, comprising students from over 10 countries, introduced themselves, sharing personal stories, aspirations, and cultural perspectives. Their diversity promises a unique multicultural experience, uniting students in the pursuit of knowledge and expertise that will shape future global specialists in risk management.

We are excited to welcome the first cohort of the NORISK master’s program, starting in October 2024!” said the program organizers. “Students from across the globe are coming together to learn, exchange ideas, and build their knowledge and skills in risk assessment and management, setting the stage for a transformative educational experience.

Professor Emilio Bastidas-Arteaga from La Rochelle University expressed his enthusiasm, saying,

“Our NORISK master’s students in La Rochelle, France, kicked off their welcome days with a tour of the campus, a walk through the charming city, and an inspiring visit to La Rochelle Aquarium. A wonderful start to what will surely be an unforgettable learning experience in the field of risk assessment and management!”

Professor José Campos e Matos, Coordinator of the NORISK program at the University of Minho, highlighted the program’s international collaboration:

“The NORISK is a European Master with four members – Minho University, La Rochelle University, University Polytechnic of Catalunya, and University of Padova – and several associated partners. It is a pleasure, as responsible for this new Master’s program, to announce the start of its first intake, year 2024/25. This year, courses will be split between the University of Minho and La Rochelle University.”

José Campos e Matos also acknowledged the collective effort behind the program’s launch:

“We are launching the NORISK, and this is only possible with a cooperative and strong team, committed to setting up a completely new learning space, preparing all necessary administrative support, and coordinating every detail for our students. At the University of Minho, we have a newly furnished classroom designed to welcome students and professors of this inaugural master’s course.”

He added,

“With around twenty students from various continents, this year will be a chance not only to delve into essential concepts related to risk and management of civil infrastructures, but also to share diverse cultural insights. The year promises many activities, including an integration week and workshops where students and faculty can connect and foster collaborative relationships”

The NORISK program looks forward to a year full of learning, growth, and international exchange, laying the foundation for future leaders in risk management and assessment.
