NORISK Program: Welcome Session in La Rochelle and Guimarães

The NORISK project is thrilled to announce its upcoming Welcome Sessions, taking place concurrently in La Rochelle, France, and Guimarães, Portugal, on the 1st and 2nd of October, 2024. This event will bring together students, professors, and administrative staff from both La Rochelle University (LRU) and the University of Minho (UMINHO), uniting these academic communities across borders to collaborate on cutting-edge research and risk management in cultural heritage.

The program will begin on 1 October 2024 with simultaneous sessions in both cities, followed by engaging presentations, networking activities, and a special invited lecture from Prof. Paulo B Lourenço, focusing on the Risk Assessment of Cultural Heritage Buildings. On the following day, participants will explore the respective universities, offering an immersive experience into the academic life and cultural heritage of each host city.

The sessions will include presentations on the NORISK program’s goals, networking opportunities, and recommendations on academic best practices. A Q&A will wrap up the day, allowing participants to discuss expectations for the coming academic year.

2 October 2024 – University Tours and Cultural Visits

La Rochelle:

  • Location: Salle Barthelemy, Building-Marie Curie, La Rochelle University
  • Key Events: A presentation of La Rochelle University and its educational system, followed by a tour of the campus and an exciting visit to La Rochelle Aquarium.

Guimarães:

  • Location: Azurém Campus, University of Minho, Building 2, Block B
  • Key Events: Presentations on UMINHO and ISISE (Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering), followed by a tour of the Azurem Campus and UMINHO labs, concluding with a Guimarães city tour to explore its historical landmarks.

The NORISK Welcome Sessions are poised to foster an international academic collaboration, laying the groundwork for innovative research and cross-cultural exchange. Participants will have the opportunity to meet their peers, connect with faculty, and immerse themselves in the distinct academic and cultural environments of La Rochelle and Guimarães.
